Oct. 24 - BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany volleyball team nearly took a set from visiting Thomas More Friday night, but the Saints (22-5, 8-2) were able to come away with a 3-0 (25-19, 28-26, 25-9) victory over the Bison.

An early 5-0 spurt by TMC in the opening set pushed them to a 10-4 advantage and they went on to take a 1-0 lead. The Bison (5-21, 2-9) led throughout the second set until Thomas More rallied to take a 22-21 lead. Bethany would fight off two set points, one on a kill by senior Sumer Scott (Triadelphia, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and the other on a tip from freshman Megan Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn). A Saints error gave BC a set point at 26-25, but the visitors responded by notching three straight points to close out the set and move in front 2-0.

Thomas More took all the suspense out of the final set with a 14-2 blitz to build a 21-7 lead and finish off the match.

Freshman Alyssa Schrecengost (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian) was the top hitter for the Green and White with nine kills and Hoffman passed out 20 assists. Defensively, freshman Tiffany Hoffman (16) and Megan (14) each had double figures in digs, while freshman Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) totaled four solo blocks.

Bethany won’t have much time to recover from this loss, as they return to action Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with a road match at Waynesburg.
