August 23 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Coming into the 2013 campaign having posted back-to-back 31-win seasons and three-straight ECAC South Championships, the Bethany College volleyball program was selected third in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll announced the conference office on Thursday.
Coach Kline and the Bison return nine players from last year’s squad, who finished the 2012 campaign with a 31-8 record including a 14-4 mark in conference play. The team also captured its third consecutive ECAC South title, defeating Moravian, 3-0 in the championship match.
Thomas More, last year’s PAC tournament champions, were picked as the preseason number one, collecting 94 points and six of the possible 10 first-place votes. The second, third and fourth ranked teams were all separated by just one point.
Geneva College got the nod as number two, garnering 80 points while the Bison came in at number three with 79 points and one first place vote. The top five were rounded out by Westminster at four (78 points and two first-place votes) and Thiel at five (62 points and one first-place vote).
The rest of the poll was as follows: #6 Saint Vincent (44 points), #7 Grove City (42 points), #8 Washington & Jefferson (37 points), #9 Waynesburg (22 points) and #10 Chatham (12 points).
The Bison will open their 2013 campaign with two two-day tournaments. The first is at Bluffton University on August 30 and 31 and the second coming a week later at Marietta College on September 6 and 7. The team will then open their home schedule on Wednesday, September 11 when they host a quad-match with Chatham University, Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State-Fayette.
