Sept. 21 - STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Bethany College volleyball team stepped out of conference Wednesday night and ran its record to 14-0 with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-10) victory at Franciscan.
The Bison, who were receiving votes in this week’s AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll for the first time in school history, relied on one veteran and one newcomer to pace their attack Wednesday. Senior Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) and freshman Jordan Fenner (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) both had eight kills, while junior Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) sent out 30 assists.
On the defensive front, Talkington was big at the net with six kills and senior Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) sparked the back row with 15 digs.
Bethany has a busy weekend looming, with three PAC matches in two days. First up is a trip to Westminster, who is 7-5 this year and reached the PAC Tournament semifinals last year, for a 7 p.m. match Friday. Then on Saturday afternoon, the Bison travel to Waynesburg to take on Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m. and the host Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m.
