Oct. 21 - BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – In a match-up of the top two teams in the PAC, the Bethany College volleyball team was tied at 1-1 with Geneva, but the Golden Tornadoes used big runs to pull away to win the final two games and come away with a 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-19, 25-15) victory over the Bison Thursday night.

After dropping the opening game, BC (24-4, 11-3) led nearly the whole way in the second game. Holding a 16-13 margin, the Bison tallied nine of the final 12 points to close out the game and draw even at 1-1.

The third game went back-and-forth to the end. Bethany was trailing 19-14 before scoring five in a row to tie the score. But the home team (19-7, 14-1) responded with six consecutive points to take the game and go in front for good. In the fourth game, Geneva scored the first three points and never trailed after that, pulling away to win the match and take a huge step towards clinching the top seed for the PAC Tournament.

Seniors Megan and Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) turned in big numbers in the back row, with Megan bringing up 24 digs, as well as serving three aces, and Tiffany totaling 23. Junior Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) passed out 31 assists.

Highlighting the hitters in the front was senior Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) with 11 kills and junior Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) with 10. Also at the net, Talkington and junior Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) compiled four assisted blocks.

The Bison are back on the court again Saturday with a tri-match at Saint Vincent. Bethany will play Chatham at 1 p.m. before taking on the Bearcats at 3 p.m.
