 Bison Volleyball Defeats Grove City, 3-1, For 14th-Consecutive PAC Victory

Oct. 23 - BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College volleyball team raised its record to 14-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, defeating Grove City College, 3-1, on Wednesday evening at the Hummel Field House.

Bethany jumped out to an early 16-6 lead in the first set, getting kills from six different players, inluding five from Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and three from Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne). Grove City would then get as close as 21-13, but back-to-back kills from Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) helped to put the game away, as Bethany took game one, 25-15.

In game two, the Wolverines led just once, 1-0, before the Bison took control. Bethany again used a balanced attack, this time getting five kills from Harris over the course of the game, and receiving four each from Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) and Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum). Bethany would lead by as many as five points (23-18) in the game before taking game two, 25-21.

In game three, the Wolverines fought back, capitalizing on 11 Bison errors in the game to run the biggest lead of the game to ten-points (17-7) before going on for the 25-17 win in game number three.

Bethany was back at it in game four, as Harris would dominate once again. She collected nine of Bethany's 16 kills in the decisive game four, and the Bison would take the game, 25-13, and the match, 3-1.

Harris was the key player of the game for Bethany as she totaled 22 kills and just five errors (.386) in the contest. Five other Bison notched at least seven kills as Dakota McKenzie finished with 10. Mandt totaled eight in the game, while Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) Lauber, and Dylana McKenzie each finished with seven. Lauber also added 47 assists in the contest, and Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) notched four service aces to lead the team.

Defensively, it was a complete team effort as the Bison totaled 86 digs in the match. Julia Mouch (Toldeo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) notched 22 to lead the way, while Becquet and Mandt added 18 each. Haley Santymire (Clifton, Va./Centreville) also finished with double-digit digs, collecting 13 in the contest.

The Bison will be back in action on Saturday, October 26 as they travel to Latrobe, Pa. to take on the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College.
