Bison Volleyball Earns Sweeps Over Thiel/Carlow

Oct. 19 – PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bison volleyball team took to the road and earned at victory at two different locations, as the Bison defeated PAC opponent, Thiel College (3-0) before registering a win in their non-conference finale, 3-0, over Carlow.

Bethany opened the day with a 1 p.m. contest in Greenville, Pa., where they swept the Tomcats of Thiel College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-15). In the game, the Bison defense was once again on display, holding the Tomcats to a .088 hitting percentage.

Offensively, Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) led the way, collecting 14 kills while making just one error. Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) and Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) added seven kills each while Samantha Katchen (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) chipped in with six kills while committing zero errors. Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison-Mansfield) distributed 33 assists in the three sets.

Defensively, Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) notched 13 assists and Katchen added 10 on the game. The Bison registered their third straight victory in which they held their opponent to under a .100 hitting percentage. The team also totaled 51 digs in just the three sets.

In the second game of the day, Bethany traveled to Pittsburgh for a contest with Carlow University; a contest which the Bison also swept, 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-20).

Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) led the Bison with 14 kills while Dylana McKenzie added 11 of her own. Harris totaled 10 kills and zero errors in 22 attempts while Lauber totaled six kills to go along with 42 assists.

On the defensive side, Mouch finished with 23 digs while Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) added 12. Haley Santymire (Clifton, Va./Centreville) added eight digs in the win while Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) finished with six.

The Bison, now 23-8 and 13-0 in PAC play will be back in action on Wednesday, October 23 when they play host to Grove City College. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
