Oct. 27 - LATROBE, Pa. – The Bethany College volleyball team settled for a split during Saturday’s tri-match at Saint Vincent (Pa.) College, dropping a 3-1 decision to the host Bearcats before sweeping past Franciscan (Ohio) University 3-0 in the second contest of the day.

Against Saint Vincent, the Bison (8-21) found themselves down 2-0 after losing the first two games 30-19, 30-21. Bethany would rally to take game three 30-26 before the Bearcats closed out the match with a 30-19 win.

Senior Lauren Spegal (Bethel Park, Pa.) led the Bison with 17 kills and was followed closely by freshman Emily Stewart (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) with 15, which matched her career-high. Junior setter Kim McKay (Pittsburgh, Pa.) set up the offense with 41 kills and the defense was spearheaded by sophomore Rachael Dunham (Gans, Pa./Albert Gallatin) with a dozen digs.

In their second match of the day, Bethany surpassed their win total from last season by taking a 3-0 decision (30-17, 30-26, 30-27) from Franciscan, their third win this season over the Barons. The career-high that Stewart matched in the Saint Vincent match was broken in this contest, as she recorded 17 kills to pace the Bison, while Spegal contributed with 14 kills.

McKay, who had a strong all-around match, went over 800 assists (832) for the year with 35 more and she also served three aces to match freshman Brittani Hall (Magnolia, Ohio/Sandy Valley) for the team-lead in the match. Spegal led in digs with 11, while Dunham and McKay each had eight.

The Bison will complete the 2007 season Monday night when they host Grove City (Pa.) College at 6:30 p.m. It will be the final match for BC seniors Spegal and Michelle Fowler (Mather, Pa./Jefferson-Morgan), who will be honored prior to the start.
