March 3 - WEXFORD, Pa. – The Bethany College women’s basketball team had four players receive All-PAC honors when the league announced its all-star teams during the conference tournament over the weekend.
Receiving Second Team accolades was freshman guard Kelly Goode (Pleasant Plain, Ohio/Little Miami) and senior guard Lisa Mitchell (Burgettstown, Pa./Avella), while juniors Susannah Cartland (Harvard, Ill.) and Kaitlyn McCormick (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) garnered Honorable Mention status.
Led by their four all-conference performers, Bethany’s most since 2003-04, the Bison finished with a 15-11 overall record and a 10-4 slate in league play for their best season since winning the PAC title four years ago.
Goode earned Second Team honors in her first season as a Bison. The 5-7 guard led the team and ranked eighth in the conference in scoring with 13.0 points per game. Goode also averaged 5.3 rebounds, ranked fourth in the PAC in steals with 2.7 and finished third in the circuit with 1.88 three-pointers per game (49 total).
Highlighting Goode’s 18 games with double digit points was a career-high 23 in a Jan. 16 victory at Chatham. In addition, she totaled two double-doubles in a Feb. 6 win against Thiel (16 pts., 10 rebs.) and the PAC quarterfinal loss to Grove City (10 pts., 10 rebs.).
A communication major, Kelly is the daughter of Tawnia Duermit and Wally Goode.
This marks back-to-back Second Team All-PAC honors for Mitchell, who battled through injuries and illness this season to finish second on the team in scoring with 8.6 points per game. The 5-8 guard also ranked second on the squad in threes (18) and free throw percentage (73.5).
Mitchell tallied 10 or more points in eight contests this season, including a 28-point effort in a Dec. 1 loss to nationally-ranked Thomas More. Another highlight to the year was a 20-point, 9-rebound performance at Thiel Jan. 5, which featured Mitchell going a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line.
An elementary education major who was named ESPN the Magazine Third Team Academic All-District II, Lisa is the daughter of Sam and Patty Mitchell.
Cartland received Honorable Mention laurels in her first season at Bethany after transferring from McHenry County College in Illinois. The 6-0 forward ranked third on the team in scoring (8.3) and rebounding (4.8) and ranked second in field goal percentage (45.9).
On the season, Cartland posted 10 games with double digit points, with eight of those coming against conference opponents. Her top two games came against Saint Vincent, as she posted 20 markers and seven boards in the home win on Jan. 9. Then in the rematch Feb. 9 at Saint Vincent, Cartland totaled 19 points and five boards.
An equine management major, Susannah is the daughter of Doug and Cathy Cartland.
Completing the Bison honorees is McCormick, who scooped up the first all-conference award of her career. The 5-7 guard led Bethany in field goal percentage (47.6) and ranked third in free throw accuracy (70.0). She went on to average 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, as well as 2.3 steals to rank seventh in the PAC.
Nine out McCormick’s 10 double figure scoring efforts were in PAC contests, highlighted by a career-high 19 markers in a Feb. 6 victory over Thiel. She also nearly posted a triple-double in a Feb. 13 triumph over Grove City with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight steals.
A psychology major, Kaitlyn is the daughter of Connie Bitzer and Tim McCormick.
