Dec. 4 – WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Bethany College women’s basketball team opened Presidents’ Athletic Conference play with a 71-54 loss at the hands of Waynesburg University on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 10-0 run over the first three minutes of the contest and never looked back in the first half. The Bison would get as close as nine points (17-8) on free throws by Taylor Verrico (Monaca, Pa./Quigley) with 11:12 remaining in the half. However, Waynesburg would run the lead to as large as 22 (30-8) over the next six minutes and go into the half with a 39-20 advantage.
In the second half, the Bison were unable to get any closer than 17 points and Bethany would fall by a score of 71-54.
Bethany was led by 13 points from Verrico, nine points from Carolena Gasbarro (Hickory, Pa/Fort Cherry) and eight points from Mikyla Tipton (Wellsville, Ohio/Wellsville). Verrico also finished the game with a double-double, grabbing 14 boards to go along with her 13 points. The double-double marked the second of the season for Verrico.
Bethany will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 7, when the Bison will host Grove City College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
