Bethany Women’s Soccer Suffers Defeat Against Mount Union

Aug. 31- BETHANY, W.Va- The Bethany College women’s soccer team (0-2) fell, 6-0, to the University of Mount Union (2-0) in the Bethany Invitational held at Hoag Field on Saturday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Maria Favorite recorded her second straight shutout of the season for the Purple Raiders.

Shannon Evans led all goal scorers in the game, as she recorded a hat trick in the for Mount Union. 

Evans got the Raiders on the scoreboard two minutes into the game as she beat a Bison defender on the right side of the eighteen yard box and fired a bullet into the back of the net. 

Evans got her second goal of the game in the 24th minute as she took the ball off a Bethany defender and slid it past the keeper to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. 

Carolyn Balzano gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead going into halftime as she split two defenders and beat the Bison net minder in the 25th minute.  

Mount Union would add three more goals in the second half to take the 6-0 victory. 

Bethany returns to action on Sept. 4 when they host Franciscan with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. at Hoag Field.
