Bison Women’s Soccer Scores Four Unanswered Goals For First Win Of Season

Sept. 17- BETHANY, W.Va.- The Bethany College women’s soccer team scored four unanswered goals as it defeated Pitt-Greensburg in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon at Hoag Field for its first win of the season.

UPG went up 2-0 before the Bison came roaring back with four straight goals to take home the 4-2 victory.

The Bison set season highs in virtually every offensive category including goals (4), points (10), and shots (25). The two assists the Bison recorded are tied for its season-high which they set in the season-opener against Muskingum.

Freshman goalkeeper Cheyann McQuain (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) was great in net for the Bison as she turned away seven shots for her first victory of the season.

Courtney Carroll scored the game’s first goal for the Bobcats in the eighth minute, as she lobbed a shot from the left side of the box over the Bison netminder and into the back of the net.

Carroll was at it again in the 37th minute, as she fired a shot at the goalkeeper, which McQuain was able to get a hand on it, but the ball squirted away into the net to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, OH/Wadsworth) scored her first goal of the season to cut the Bison defecit to, 2-1,  in the 45th minute. Fullbright took a free kick from 20 yards out,and ripped a shot that bent away from the goalie and into the back of the net.

Junior McKenna Junkin (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) netted her second goal of the season in the 51s minute, as she curled a shot off a corner kick into the net to tie the game at two.

Nine minutes later, freshman Sarah London (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) scored her first of two goals in the game to give the Bison a 3-2 lead.. London volleyed in a cross from freshman Julie Slezak (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe).

London scored her second goal of the game and team-leading fourth goal of the season, to give the Bison a 4-2 lead in the 76th minute. Senior Haylee Acree (Middlebourne, W.Va./Tyler Consolidated) recorded her first point of the season, as she passed it to London off a corner kick, and London crossed it into the net.

Bethany looks to extend its winning ways, when it hosts Baldwin Wallace on September 24, at 7:00 p.m. at Bison Stadium.
