Oct. 16- BETHANY, W.Va.- Freshman Julie Slezak (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) scored two goals but the Bethany College women’s soccer team fell, 3-2, to Waynesburg in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at Hoag Field.
Slezak now has nine goals on the season which leads the team. This is the second straight game Slezak has scored a goal.
Freshman Cheyann McQuain (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) kept the Bison in the game despite being outshot 26-4, as she made nine saves on the afternoon.
Ciara Scott earned her sixth victory of the season for the Yellow Jackets.
Slezak gave the Bison a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Freshman Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) passed the ball to Slezak at the top of the eighteen yard box and Slezak fired a shot into top part of the net over the goalie’s head.
Waynesburg would tie the game in the 42nd minute as Taylor Bombalski scored on a free kick from 35 yards out.
The Yellow Jackets scored goals in the 52nd and 54th minute to take a 3-1 lead.
Bethany kept charging hard to get back in the game and its hard work paid off as Slezak netted her second goal of the game the 68th minute. She stole the ball off a defender and shot the ball past the Yellow Jacket goalkeeper.
The Bison comeback fell just a bit shot as Bethany fell 3-2 to Waynesburg.
Bethany returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 as it travels to Chatham with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
