Oct. 29-BETHANY, W.Va.- The Bethany College women’s soccer team closed out its regular- season home schedule with a 4-0 loss to Washington and Jefferson in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match on Tuesday afternoon at Hoag Field.
Freshman Sarah London (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) let the Bison with four shots on the afternoon.
Sophomore Whitney Sparks (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) got the start in net for Bethany and recorded seven saves.
Bethany got off to a quick start and had the game’s first scoring opportunity. London put a shot on net that just went wide of the post and the game would remain scoreless.
Junior McKenna Junkin (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) fired a great shot on goal in the eighth minute, and forced Presidents’ goalkeeper Mattie Follen to make a great save to keep the game scoreless.
Holly Shipley put W&J on the scoreboard with her first of three goals on the afternoon in the 12th minute of play.
W&J added two more goals in the first half and would take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Bethany regrouped at halftime and came out ready to play. Sparks was put to the test early, as Shipley chipped the ball towards the goal but Sparks made a great diving save to keep the deficit at three.
The Bison played much better in the second half earning two corner kicks, but were unable to put one in the back of the net.
Shipley completed the hat-trick with her third goal of the game in the 78th minute, as W&J would take the game 4-0.
Bethany travels to Geneva on Saturday for its regular-season finale with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m.
