BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College proudly announces Rev. Dr. Todd A. Adams as this year’s distinguished baccalaureate speaker for the Class of 2024 on May 10. Adams is currently the president and chief executive officer of the Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a member of Bethany’s Board of Trustees.
With a career spanning leadership roles within the Christian Church and a commitment to nonprofit governance and religious stewardship, Adams brings a wealth of experience to Bethany’s graduating class. 
Adams’ journey in ministry and leadership has been marked by dedication, service, and a profound understanding of the importance of community. As president and CEO of the Pension Fund, he oversees the management of $3.3 billion in retirement assets for pastors and church workers across the U.S., Canada, and P.R. Additionally, he has served in various capacities within the Christian Church, including as associate general minister and vice president, guiding congregations towards transformation and sustainability.
His expertise extends beyond his professional titles. Adams is a certified governance trainer for Board Source and leads workshops and retreats on nonprofit governance, compensation and benefits, congregational transformation, stewardship, and financial ethics. His commitment to nurturing effective leadership and organizational excellence is evident in his role as a consultant with nonprofit boards, where he shares best practices and strategies for success.
A native of Tulsa, Okla., Adams holds degrees from Chapman University, Phillips Theological Seminary, and Wesley Theological Seminary. He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to ministry and leadership with awards such as the Frank Marshall Award for Ministerial Excellence from Phillips Theological Seminary and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Bethany College.
In his upcoming address at Bethany College, Adams will draw inspiration from 1 Corinthians:13, challenging graduates to embrace love as they embark on their next chapter in life. His message will resonate with the theme of continuous learning, growth, and leadership rooted in love—a fitting send-off for the Class of 2024.
Reflecting on the occasion, Adams says, “Bethany has lost a leadership giant in the unexpected passing of Janet Long ’77. It is my honor to step into her place as the 2024 baccalaureate preacher to say a good word for Janet and a good word for Jesus as the Class of 2024 prepares to take their next steps in life.”
