BETHANY, W.Va. (Dec. 5, 2025) — Bethany College hosted its annual Light Up Night on Dec. 1, welcoming students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to campus for an evening filled with holiday spirit, creativity, and charitable giving.

This year’s celebration raised an even $4,000, the most in recent years, giving $3,500 to support The Salvation Army in Wellsburg, W.Va., and $500 to the “Shop with a Cop” program. The Salvation Army’s mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ while meeting human needs without discrimination aligned seamlessly with Light Up Night’s tradition of partnering with organizations that make a meaningful impact in the region. “Shop with a Cop” is a nationwide program that pairs children in need with law enforcement officers for a holiday shopping experience, providing children with gifts and necessities they may not otherwise receive.

As always, one of the most anticipated traditions of the night was the holiday tree and wreath auction. This year, 37 generous donations were contributed by student groups, athletic teams, administrative offices, private citizens, faculty, staff, and even the Hilltop Catholic Campus Ministry in West Liberty. Student organizations, athletic teams, and College departments created themed displays decorated with unique items, gift cards, snacks, and festive touches that drew active bidding throughout the event. The creativity and generosity on display reflected the strong sense of community that defines Bethany College.

Light Up Night remains one of the College’s most cherished annual traditions, bringing the campus and wider community together in support of a meaningful cause and in celebration of the holiday season.
