BETHANY, W.Va. – A Bethany College alumna will serve the Christian Church Foundation as the vice president of the Mountain West Zone.

The Rev. Monica Myers Greenberg graduated from Bethany in 1995 with degrees in psychology and religion studies. She went on to graduate from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and was ordained at Bethany Memorial Church.

Originally from Mogadore, Ohio, Greenberg has been in the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years. She said she was always interested in seeing other parts of the country, and a church in Tacoma called with a job opening.

“It just seemed like a really exciting and interesting opportunity,” she said. “And [the Northwest has] been my home ever since.”

Since 2002, she has been senior pastor at Northwest Christian Church in Seattle. Her new role with the Christian Church Foundation is scheduled to begin Jan. 1.

She became acquainted with the foundation when Northwest Christian received a grant and decided to partner with the foundation on ways to best invest the money to support the congregation’s ongoing missions.

“I’m hoping that relationships and connections that I’ve made serving here for 21 years will be an asset to the work that I’m doing,” she said. “If I can be a help to congregation as they innovate and create new ministries, I’m really excited about those opportunities.”

As a pastor, Greenberg said she’s always had an interest in helping churches expand their outreach in the community by identifying their strengths and find ministries that they are passionate about.

With the Christian Church Foundation, she will be able assist multiple congregations.

“I look forward to partnering with people who love the church and have a passion for insuring, through their own generosity, that the church’s faith and witness will continue for many years to come,” she said.

Greenberg and her husband live in Seattle with their son.
