Benedict ’07 to Address Bethany College Kalon Leadership Scholarship Candidates
BETHANY, W.Va. – Jessica Spencer Benedict, a 2007 Bethany College graduate and Associate at Dinsmore & Shohl, will deliver the keynote address for the 32nd annual Kalon Leadership Scholarship Day on Feb. 20.
Benedict will speak at the luncheon in Benedum Commons which marks the mid-point in a full day of activities for selected high school students from throughout the country who will be competing for the elite scholarship program.
Kalon Leadership Scholarship candidates are chosen based on high school leadership activities, academic performance, and a submitted essay. Students tour the campus, hear presentations from senior administrators, faculty, and current Kalon Scholars and complete the process with in-depth interviews conducted by three-member teams that include a Bethany faculty or staff member, a current Bethany student and an alumnus.
Benedict, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in political science from Bethany, attended Bethany on a Kalon Leadership Scholarship. In 2010, she graduated from West Virginia University’s School of Law with her Doctorate of Jurisprudence, with the honor of Order of the Barristers.
After law school, Benedict returned to the Northern Panhandle to serve as a judicial law clerk. She had clerkships with the Honorable Mark A. Karl, Arthur M. Recht and Jeffery Crammer. Recently, she joined the firm of Dinsmore & Shohl as an associate in their Wheeling office with a focus in workers compensations, tort and environmental law.
