Bethany’s Fulbright Scholar Receives Honorable Mention for IIE Impact Story Contest

BETHANY, W.Va. – Fulbright Scholar, Ghizlane Fadili of Morocco, was chosen as one of 10 honorable mentions for the Institute of International Education (IIE) Impact Story Contest. Her submission details her experience in the nine-month Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA Program) at Bethany College.

Fadili has a bachelor’s degree in English studies from University Mohammed First. She taught English classes in Morocco for three years and taught Arabic language and culture courses at Bethany College. At Bethany, Fadili worked with another Fulbright Scholar, Lyu-Wei Chen of Taiwan. They worked together while taking college courses and living in residence halls on campus to initiate many events and activities including volunteer service activities, Arabic and Chinese calligraphy for charity and cultural presentations.

“Lyu-Wei and I supported each other all along the way,” said Fadili. “We worked our fingers to the bone to increase and deepen mutual understanding between the community of West Virginia and us, which is an important goal of the Fulbright program.”

To be eligible for the IIE Impact Story Contest, submissions had to be from a current IIE grantee or alumnus of an IIE administered program. Once a submission was made, a panel of IIE team members judged the submissions that told the story of IIE, whose mission is to advance international education and access to education worldwide.

“We can never be grateful enough for being a part of this wonderful Fulbright program,” added Fadili.

The FLTA Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Institute of International Education.
