Rev. Scott Thayer is a graduate of Central Michigan University (B.A. Religious Studies, 1975) and Yale Divinity School (M.Div., 1979). He completed one year of post-graduate work at the University of Bonn, Germany (Biblical Studies and Theology, 1979-80). He did doctoral work in Biblical Studies at Emory University (1985-89, 91-92). His proposed Ph.D dissertation topic was: “The Social-Rhetorical Nature of the Stephen Speech in Acts Chapter 7.” Rev. Thayer is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), serving congregations in California, Alabama and West Virginia. He has served on a variety of denominational boards and committees on the regional and national levels, including two terms on the board of the Council on Christian Unity for the Disciples of Christ. He is the current Minister for Youth Serving Ministries with the Disciples of Christ and is the National Liaison for the Boy Scouts of America. He has taught religious studies courses at The University of Charleston, Columbia Theological Seminary, Millsap’s College, Candler School of Theology, Emory University, and Bethany College. He served as Disciples Campus Minister at the University of Alabama (2002-2009) and Chaplain of Bethany College from 2009 to 2017.
