BETHANY, W.Va. – Consistent with its tradition of academic excellence, Bethany College has once again received reaffirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for the next 10 years, signifying HLC’s firm endorsement of the College’s leadership and strategic direction.
“Bethany has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since the regional accreditation process began more than 50 years ago, and this latest news reaffirms HLC’s confidence in our vision, teaching, academic program, and future planning as expressed in our strategic plan, Bethany Connect,” said Bethany President, the Rev. Dr. Tamara Rodenberg.
The next reaffirmation review will occur in the 2028-2029 academic year.
Earning decennial reaffirmation is an intense process, requiring a substantial investment of time, leadership, and study among Bethany colleagues and the College overall. Leading the process for Bethany’s 10-year reaffirmation was Provost Dr. Joe Lane, Assistant Dean of Accreditation, Assessment & Accountability Richard Miller and the Goulding-Woolery Professor of Chemistry and Bethany’s Accreditation Liaison Officer Lisa Reilly.
“Provost Lane, Assistant Dean Miller and Professor Reilly’s leadership in preparing, organizing, and coordinating this process were essential to securing Bethany’s future, and I am grateful for their partnership with all of us in meeting this institutional milestone,” Rodenberg said.
Since its founding, Bethany has always been committed to educating effective, honorable, humane, and intelligent citizens who believe in and will promote the creation of a world of worth and value. Today, the College offers 26 departmental and six interdisciplinary majors, 33 minors, and three dual-degree programs. It is one of a few liberal arts colleges to require students pass comprehensive written and oral exams for approval to graduate. The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission also has re-endorsed the College for the upcoming academic year.
“Earning reaffirmation of accreditation reflects our proud and longstanding partnership with the HLC,” Rodenberg said. “Over the next 10 years, we will again continue to work with HLC to assess and improve our programs, to refine our budgeting practices, and to provide a superior education in the liberal arts and sciences to a new generation of Bethanians.”
