Bethany College Scholarship Opportunities

Bethany College established the Presidential Scholarship to give recognition to high school seniors who have achieved the highest academic standing and success and. The application process includes a completed application for admission, official high school transcripts, SAT and ACT scores, as well as a required essay.

Successful candidates are awarded a full tuition scholarship to reward their outstanding achievements.

Candidates for the Presidential Scholarship are selected after undergoing a thorough application process, as well as on campus interviews with a panel of three faculty members.

The deadline for this scholarship has passed for the entering class of fall 2018. Information for the next academic year will be available August 1, 2018.

Throughout history, Bethany College has sought to recognize and reward student achievement in leadership and service. The Kalon Leaders Scholarship Program was started in 1984. It serves as an extension of our commitment to the recognition of students who possess special leadership potential, and will contribute to the Bethany Community.

Award maintenance is dependent upon student involvement in the College community, a good citizenship record and a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average.

Scholarship Amount: $19,500

Participants are expected to have demonstrated exceptional qualities of character and leadership, to have achieved a record of distinction in service to their school and community, and to have maintained a commendable grade point average. All students involved in the scholarship competition must be accepted by February 7, 2018.

Scholarships may be stackable with other Bethany awards. However, Kalon is not stackable with Bethany Merit money, as they are separate tracks. Kalon may be stackable with Alumni awards, Campus Visit Grant and Sibling Scholarship, just to name a few. The Bethany Need Grant is replacement funding of all grants and scholarships except outside resources. The Bethany Scholarship ranges from $4,000 to $18,000 per year and is available to applicants who enroll at Bethany as freshman students. Transfer students can qualify for $16,000 to $18,000 per year. These awards are based upon each student’s level of academic achievement and are offered through the Center for Enrollment. This is a renewable scholarship for all four years of full-time enrollment.

All accepted students with a 2.5 or higher GPA will be awarded a Bethany College Need Grant based on a need percentage calculation. Bethany College will meet 100% federal financial aid need for students with a GPA 3.5 or higher.

A Bethany College Need Grant is awarded to first time freshmen and transfer undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time and demonstrate financial need as determined by the result of a verified FAFSA application.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • The grant applies as a replacement award reducing the amount of any other Federal, State, or University grants or scholarships
  • Some military may be eligible for the Bethany College Need Grant depending on other military benefits
  • Students that participate in Employee Tuition Remission, Child Benefit and Tuition Exchange programs are not eligible for Bethany College Need Grants.
  • Outside scholarships or third-party awards will not reduce the Bethany College Need Grant. However, outside scholarships in conjunction with all other aid, cannot exceed the student’s cost of attendance as established by the College.

  • Students may receive the Bethany College Need Grant for a maximum of 8 semesters.
  • Students must maintain the minimum Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress standards in order to retain eligibility.
  • Once the FAFSA is completed, incoming students are automatically considered for the grant.

Awarded to the son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of a Bethany College alumnus. Awards are $1,500.

$1,000 per year. Both siblings must be enrolled full-time.

$1,500 per year offered to students transferring to Bethany from a community college. Must have a 3.0 GPA and provide proof of membership to Phi Theta Kappa.

$1,000 scholarship awarded to students who participate in the Bethany College Marching Band or Choir.

Church-Based Awards

Bethany College offers a scholarship in the amount of $16,000 to all students who are members of churches affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. A letter documenting church membership must be submitted by the church pastor.

This $5000 scholarship award is competitive and conditional. To apply, students must submit an essay affirming their commitment to religious leadership and describing their experience as religious leaders. This application also requires two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the student’s role as a church leader.

Students who accept this award agree to complete a course each in the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, to participate faithfully in the Religious Leadership Mentor program, and to complete a Religious Leadership internship. This scholarship is open to anyone, regardless of religious background or affiliation.

Son/Daughter of a Minister – Bethany College also provides a $1,500 scholarship to students whose parent(s) are ministers in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the United Church of Christ.

Bethany College will accept scholarships from outside sources. Students are encouraged to apply for all scholarships for which they may be eligible. Never pay to apply for outside scholarships.
