BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College is welcoming alumni back to campus Oct. 8-10 for its annual homecoming celebration.

The weekend begins at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 8 with the 17th annual Hugh “Tiger” Joyce Golf Scramble at Wheeling Country Club, 906 Oglebay Drive, Wheeling. The cost is $125 per golfer or $480 per foursome with advance registration.

On-campus registration begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 8 and 9 outside Morlan Hall, where alumni can pick up their tickets and reunion gifts, and enjoy light refreshments and complimentary Starbucks drinks. At 2:30 p.m. Oct. 9, registration will move to the tailgate area outside Hummel Field House.

The 1933 Society will host a ceremony and reception recognizing the latest members of the group, which honors those graduates who passed their comprehensive exams with distinction, at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Erickson Alumni Center Patio.

Reunion receptions for the classes of 1970, 1980, 1981, 1990, and 1991 will be begin at 4:30 p.m. at various sites across campus. Additional information will be provided at registration. This class of 1971 will host its reunion outside Bethany House.

A homecoming celebration and alumni awards dinner will take place for from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Old Main Quadrangle. Registration is required by Oct. 4. The cost is $25 per person.

At 8 p.m., Kenn Morgan ’71, Bethany’s Jennie Renner Steindorf Chair of Fine Arts, will host his annual alumni art show, which will showcase the class of 1971. Guests will meet outside Bethany House. Refreshments will be served, and small groups will be escorted into the gallery in following with social distancing protocols; please note masks are required indoors.

At 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9 Erickson Alumni Center will host a dedication ceremony for the center’s James Allison Patio. Allison was an alumnus and longtime Bethany College mathematics professor who died of a cardiovascular ailment in 2000 at age 59. For 20 years, the college hosted Allison’s Run on Castleman Run Road during homecoming.

At 9:30 a.m., Greek life alumni are invited to breakfast at the Old Main Quadrangle, while the class of 1971 will dine at 10:30 a.m. in the Old Main Corridor.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the Athletics Hall of Fame luncheon and induction will be in Commencement Hall. The cost is $40 per adult and $12 per child.

Scores of Bethany scholar-athletes will take the field on Oct. 9. Tailgating opens at noon near Hummel Field House. To reserve a tailgate spot, email football coach Bill Garvey at [obfuscate_btn]wgarvey@bethanywv.edu[/obfuscate_btn].

The Bison volleyball team will face off against Lebanon Valley College at 11 a.m. in Hummel Field House and Allegheny College at 3 p.m. The women’s soccer team faces Waynesburg at 1 p.m. at Hoag Field, while the men’s team will follow with a 3:30 p.m. game, also against the Yellow Jackets.

The Bison football team battles Thiel at 4:30 p.m. at Bison Stadium. Fifth Quarter will follow the game with music, food, and drinks. The cost is $20.

At 9 a.m. Oct. 10, Bethany will celebrate the class of 1971 and all other alumni who have marked their 50th anniversary at the Scroll Breakfast in Oglebay Park’s Wilson Lodge. At 10:45 a.m. Bethany Memorial Church invites all alumni and guests to attend its Sunday service.

With COVID-19 safety protocols still in place at Bethany, masks are required in all on-campus buildings. Most homecoming events will be held outdoors.
