Hometown: Huntington Beach, California
Major: Finance & Managerial Economics
Ryan Nickerson, a double major in Finance and Managerial Economics, chose to come to Bethany because he liked the one-on-one attention he would receive from his professors.
"I chose Bethany College because I loved the campus and the opportunity to play baseball in college," said Nickerson. "I also liked the small class sizes for a more one-on-one teaching style with my professors."
Nickerson, a junior from Huntington Beach, California, is also heavily involved on campus. He is a member of the Bethany College Baseball Team, President of the Baseball Club and President of the Student Government Association. The Student Government Association (SGA) is the guiding body for student life at Bethany College.
As SGA President, Nickerson has had the opportunity to be a part of different campus events, including the installation of Bethany’s 20th President, Dr. Tamara Rodenberg, as well as participating in the 177th Annual Founder’s Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony.
“My favorite Bethany College tradition is definitely Founder’s Day,” said Nickerson. “I always love to learn more about our founder, Alexander Campbell’s history.”
Nickerson encourages prospective students and current students alike to become involved during their time at college.
“You have to be active on campus. Play a sport, join a fraternity or sorority and join as many clubs as possible,” said Nickerson. “This school can offer a lot for any student, but they have to be involved inside and outside of the classroom.”
Nickerson took his own advice and became involved. In addition to his academics and athletics, he also participated in Bethany’s first-ever Dragon Boat Race in Wheeling, West Virginia, in summer 2016 and helped his team secure a fourth place finish.
Upon graduation in the spring of 2018, Nickerson plans to be a Certified Financial Advisor (CFA), and work at a bank as an investment planner.
