Greek Life at Bethany

Founded in 1840, Bethany College has a long tradition of Greek life on campus. Delta Tau Delta, also founded in 1840, is part of that early history, and since then, additional fraternities and sororities have grown into a lasting presence on campus. Today, Greek organizations continue to build strong bonds, support leadership development, and create opportunities for service, philanthropy, and involvement across campus.

Greek life at Bethany is centered on helping students grow beyond the classroom. Through academic support, leadership opportunities, and community service, members are encouraged to take on meaningful roles within both their organizations and the broader campus community. Fraternities and sororities play an active role in campus life and contribute to the student experience in a variety of ways.

How to Join

To join Greek Life at Bethany, you will go through a procedure called “Recruitment.” The Bethany College Greek system follows the fall recruitment model. This means freshman students are eligible to go through recruitment their first semester on campus. In the spring semester, all eligible students can accept a bid to the house of their choosing if granted one by the Chapter. Formal Recruitment takes place at the beginning of the fall semester. At Recruitment, members of the Greek community will provide organized programs to explain and promote the benefits of Greek Life.

Requirements:

  • Must be in good standing with the College
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (individual fraternities and sororities may have higher GPA requirements)
  • Office of Student Affairs reserves the right to deny any student entrance to a Chapter

Current Students:

Current students are encouraged to learn more about sorority recruitment and register by visiting the Panhellenic Council recruitment page.

Current students who are interested in fraternity recruitment can contact the Interfraternity Council President.

Phi Kappa Tau, Phi Chapter (Greek Hill)
Founded at Bethany – 1923
Mission – “To provide each man that joins our fraternity with the spirit embodied in our cardinal principles, such that each man grows through a quality fraternity experience to be a credit to his fraternity, college/university, community and country.”

Beta Theta Pi, Psi Chapter (Downtown Bethany)
Founded at Bethany – 1860
Mission – “Beta Theta Pi is dedicated to building men of principle for a principled life. Our brotherhood aids the individual, builds the Fraternity and strengthens the host academic institution through lifelong devotion to intellectual excellence, high standards of moral conduct and responsible citizenship.”
